Electrical safety: Taking care of your electrical network

Cities are full of opportunities to study, work, meet people but, increasingly, also to ensure a future that respects the planet . In fact, one of the Sustainable Development Goals, SDG 11 , focuses on the development of sustainable cities .

Do you know what a green and ecological corridor is? Is there one in your city? Below, we discover everything that these natural spaces provide and what their benefits are for metropolitan areas and their inhabitants.

What is an urban ecological corridor?
Sometimes, due to lack of time, we cannot go to the forests, but enjoying the company of trees, on the way to work or school or returning home after a long day, is much more pleasant and even recharges our energy. In addition, trees do a lot for us. The Institute of Atmospheric and Climate Sciences, ETH Zurich (Switzerland), has confirmed that they can reduce the temperature of the Earth's surface in cities by up to 12 °C in summer.

The cooling effect they achieve is mainly due to transpiration, a process by which water inside the tree is released as water vapour through its leaves. For this reason, this same research indicates that it is a good idea to plant more trees in cities to combat global warming and reduce the effects of climate change.

Studies such as this one and, above all, the need whatsapp number list to create more sustainable urban areas, have led to the development of green corridors .

Is an ecological corridor the same as a biological one?
Ecological corridors can also be called conservation or biological corridors , but it should be noted that if they are not specified as urban, it is because these corridors are not located in cities, although their function is the same: to unite natural areas . Likewise, their objective is to preserve biodiversity, maintain the structure and function of ecosystems and promote ideal conditions for the habitat of wild flora and fauna.

To further clarify the differences, and outside of urban areas, the World Wildlife Fund distinguishes between ecological corridors , which are 1 to 5 kilometres wide , and conservation corridors, which are less than 1 kilometre wide. The latter are established to link natural areas whose ecosystems are seriously threatened.

Did you know that there is also a discontinuous urban corridor?
These are found in the so-called megalopolises , large cities with a population of more than 10 million inhabitants. Thanks to these discontinuous urban corridors, all the settlements in the city are naturally connected. An example would be the Paseo de la República in Lima.
