Engaging with employees is easier in a face-to-face situation. However, in the situation caused by the coronavirus outbreak, maintaining that engagement in a telecommuting or remote work setting can be more complicated.

So how can we help teams adapt to working remotely or teleworking ?

It is common to hold weekly meetings with all team members to catch up. Obviously, a shift to teleworking or remote work means that physical presence is not possible.

However, this does not mean that this weekly update cannot be carried out: thanks to technology , holding online meetings is very simple.

Video conferencing tools, such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams, will provide easy access for employees to hold these types of meetings. Additionally, these applications allow multiple people to present and contribute at the same time, so nothing falls through the cracks.

When you have meetings with your employees, try to have the team catch up in a “face-to-face” environment with cameras on.

3) Stay up to date with performance management
How are employees handling their workloads while working remotely? Are they achieving their goals or do they need support to stay on track?

Performance management is easier when everyone is working in the same location, but when working remotely, that's not so simple.

To counteract that, set up processes so that managers can check in with employees regularly to measure progress and offer guidance.

Again, technology can bring us closer if we use cloud-based HR software to store all performance management documents. Once done, you can use video conferencing tools (with or without the camera on) to discuss that evaluation between manager and employee.
