Nowadays, it's enough to say “Ok, Google…” to start a voice search when using the Google app on any device, without having to enter the search engine on a computer to type in the query. And this is a trend that must be taken into account when designing an organization's next marketing strategies.

In another entry on our blog, we explained in detail what voice search is and how it impacts the SEO of companies. But, to start this article, I would like to revisit this concept a little.

In a nutshell, voice search refers to the function that allows users to make a query by speaking directly to a device, instead of typing the words into the search engine.

And now, you may be asking yourself: "What does this have to do with my business?"

There are many studies related to this trend. One of them, carried out by Global Web Index , found that 1 in 5 users prefer to perform a search via voice, especially those younger. And this preference is increasing.

This is just one reason why it is extremely important to have your website optimized for these types of queries, so that it improves its SEO positioning and can appear in the main results of search engines like Google.

But do you know how to do it? I share with you some strategies that you could implement.

Voice Search Optimization Strategies
There are several actions that can help optimize website content for these types of searches, but the ones below are a good place to start.

1. Research keywords
To start, it is important to understand how users search for the company, or the product and/or service it offers. Speaking and writing are two very different ways of searching for information, so it is necessary to identify those keywords , mainly long-tail, that help in SEO positioning.

For example, on a computer, a person can search for “bank X hours”, but when doing so by voice, it will most likely be “What time does bank X open?”.

As you can see, voice searches generally use questions, starting with what, how, where, when, among others, since they are more conversational. Fortunately, free online tools are available, such as Answerthepublic , that give a clearer view of how users make searches related to your keywords or with which they can reach your website.

2. Google My Business
Many voice searches are related to information about places to visit. Therefore, one of the first actions to take is to update the company information in the Google business directory.

The more up-to-date your business information is (including name, address, phone number, and images), the more useful and easier it will be for users to find your business, especially when searching for “near me.”

3. Answer the most frequently asked questions on your site
Many companies include a page with the most common questions they ask about their offer, as it helps them rank for their long-tail keywords.

However, a valuable strategy to optimize the website for voice search is to create entire posts on the company's blog answering those most frequently asked questions, aligned with the identified long-tail keywords.

This, in addition to helping rank your solution to users' questions, increases the probability of appearing in the Featured Snippet, a box at the top of the Google results page with a short and concise answer to the query asked.
